How to use Quiet Books to improve Children’s Development

If you want to learn more about how Quiet Books help in the cognitive and motor development of babies and toddlers keep reading with me.

Quiet Books

Quiet Books bring children a sensory experience that stimulates cognitive development, in an old fashion way, in addition to being super cute, they are an invitation to tactile, visual, and auditory exploration.

When you are choosing a sensory book for your child, it is important to know what skills and stimuli the activities will provide. So I thought it would be interesting to detail all the possibilities of play that each page of the book offers. For this post, I chose the Elephant Mini Book from my store because it’s perfect for little hands.

Let’s find out what the babies will learn

To begin with, these two pages present the concept of differences or opposites: night and day. It’s showing unique elements of each time such as moon, star, and rainbow. Additionally, the baby can explore the hidden surprise on each page.

The page of the night hides an owl with a belly full of shape buttons encouraging their recognition and learning.

As the babies continued to play on the day page they will be encouraged to learn colors and experience different textures, because behind each color of the rainbow is hidden a ribbon with the same color but with a different texture. It’s an activity to enhance the baby’s touch.

Fruits are generally one of the first foods to be introduced when babies start food introduction. So it brings a very wide sensory reminder to the child: the taste, the smell, the shape, and the colors. In this book, I chose to place the apple and the pear, especially for the contrast of colors.

At the apple, a cute elastic caterpillar accompanies it. When babies are pulling it, they are stimulating their strengths.

The pear is super fluffy and when squeezed it makes a noise stimulating the baby’s auditory perception. In addition, the action of removing and placing the pear through hook and loop develops motor skills.

On this next page, the baby will find a fun cupcake. The baby will be able to take and put the cherry and have fun pulling the colorful beads. Besides learning colors, the baby will develop strength and motor skills.

The activities of the last page focus on the development of autonomy by encouraging the opening and closing of zippers, hook and loop, and how to buttoning.

Let the fun go on!

The video for this book is available on my YouTube channel. This is one more way to understand the activities before you decided to give a sensory book for your baby or toddler. Because it is important to make sure if the activities will be suitable for your baby’s level of development.

As you can see, the child will develop so many skills through playing. You can go further using quiet books to stimulate language, imagination, basic notions, or simply leaving the child free to explore each page and have fun.
